ACADEMIC DEANS
DEPARTMENT CHAIRS

The Chancellor’s Fellow title of distinction was created in 2001 to recognize faculty, with tenure, whose recent achievements in scholarship evidence extraordinary promise for world-class contributions to knowledge, and whose pattern of contributions evidence strong trajectory to distinction.

Use of the Title

Beginning July 1, 2023, Chancellor’s Fellow appointments will be used to support retentions, predominantly of mid-level faculty. The distinction is for three years and carries an award of up to $25K per year in support of research; this title may not be renewed past three years. There is a maximum of 2 centrally funded Chancellor’s Fellows, per School, at any one time.

Nomination and Selection Process

A school must submit the required documentation, found on the checklist, when nominating a tenured faculty. The file is reviewed by a campus committee composed of the Vice Provost for Academic Personnel, Vice Provost for Academic Planning & Institutional Research, and Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. Their recommendation, along with the file, will be reviewed by the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor, who holds final authority for this title of distinction.

Please refer to our website of all programs of distinctions for further information.

A Chancellor’s Fellow file should be forwarded through the dean’s office and emailed to Nancy Vongsawat, nkvongsa@uci.edu. If you have any questions, please contact her at nkvongsa@uci.edu.

Sincerely,
Diane K. O’Dowd
Vice Provost for Academic Personnel
