In accordance with the current contractual agreement between the International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America (UAW) and the University of California, the salary rates for the Postdoctoral Scholars (PX) will be adjusted by a general range adjustment effective April 1, 2023.

POSTDOCTORAL SCHOLAR DATA CLEAN UP

Last week, we circulated a data clean up list to all units with postdocs that needed data corrections in UCPath. Please make sure you process all updates/changes to postdoc appointments by Friday, March 10, 2023, to ensure that the range adjustment process will run accurately.

RANGE ADJUSTMENT PROCESSING

Range adjustments will be split into three processing categories as follows:

Process 1 – Adjustments that will automatically be processed centrally:

  • Postdoc Employees (003252, 003255), with a single postdoc appointment
  • Postdoc Interims (003256), with a single postdoc appointment

Process 2 – Adjustments that will potentially be processed centrally but will need input from units:

  • Postdoc Fellows (003253), with a single postdoc appointment
  • Postdoc Paid Directs (003254), with a single postdoc appointment

Academic Personnel will be forwarding a spreadsheet to those units with employees that fall into this category. Units will need to determine if the external funding source(s) are able to cover 100% of the salary increase.

  • If the external funding source can fully cover the increase, the increase will be processed centrally.
  • If the external funding source cannot fully cover the increase, the increase will need to be processed manually by the unit.

Process 3 – Adjustments that will require manual processing by the units.

  • Postdoctoral Scholars with multiple postdoc appointments

This population will be EXCLUDED from the centrally processed general range adjustment. Academic Personnel will forward a list of these employees to the units for manual processing.

Detailed instructions will be released with the spreadsheets for processes 2 and 3.

POSTDOCTORAL SCHOLAR EXPERIENCE LEVEL INCREASES:

For postdocs with an anniversary date on or before April 1, 2023, experience level increases should continue to be processed on the postdoc’s existing anniversary date per current practice.

Beginning April 1, 2023, experience level increases will be processed twice a year, in April and October, depending on the date of the postdoc’s anniversary date. Postdocs will move to the next experience minimum salary rate level or receive an increase of at least 3%, whichever is greater. 

What will happen on April 1, 2023?
Postdocs with an anniversary date between April 2 and September 30

  • Movement to new UC salary scale AND Experience Level Increase on April 1, 2023
  • If the postdoc’s salary is above the new UC Scale experience level minimum for their experience level, they will receive a minimum 3% overall increase.

Postdocs with an anniversary date between October 1 and April 1

  • Movement to new UC salary scale
  • May receive no increase on April 1, 2023 if already above new UC Scale experience level minimum

The April 1, 2023, experience level increase will be processed centrally for individuals who fit into the central processing guidelines as noted above under “Range Adjustment Processing”.
