ACADEMIC DEANS
DEPARTMENT CHAIRS
ALL APM COVERED FACULTY AND ACADEMIC APPOINTEES

On January 24, 2023, the Office of Academic Personnel issued a campus communication regarding the revised APM 025, Conflict of Commitment and Outside Activities of Faculty Members and Designated Other Academic Appointees, and APM 671, Conflict of Commitment and Outside Activities of Health Sciences Compensation Plan Participants. These revised policies are effective July 1, 2024, and include the following key revisions:

  • Category 1 activities now include:
    • Current or pending acceptance of an honorary, visiting, adjunct, or other institutional appointment (compensated or uncompensated) at an institution of higher education, research institute, or medical center affiliated with an outside institution of higher education, non-U.S. government, or other outside entity.
    • Participation in, or application to, talent recruitment programs sponsored by a government agency of a nation other than the United States that are specifically designed to recruit science and technology professionals or students.
  • The definition of Compensation is expanded to include in-kind contributions, such as office/laboratory space, equipment, supplies, or employees or students supported by an outside source.
  • Faculty and Designated Other Academic Appointees must comply with applicable federal agency disclosure requirements if participating in federally funded research projects in addition to following these APM policies.

The UC OATS system has been updated to reflect these policy revisions. Office of Academic Personnel and Office of Research will provide staff and faculty trainings on these policy guidelines and requirements in the near future. Details about these training opportunities will be coming soon.
