Dear Chief Personnel Officers,
The fires in the Los Angeles area have had a devastating impact on our community, causing significant loss and displacement for our colleagues, including our academic appointees. We recognize the immense hardship and emotional toll this disaster has placed on those affected. In light of these circumstances, we want to bring to your attention the available resources for our academic appointees.
We are providing to you the paid leave options currently available under the Academic Personnel Manual (APM) that may potentially be used to support our impacted academic appointees. Paid leave options are available based on the eligibility criteria. We have attached a document outlining these criteria for your reference.
It is important to review each paid leave option carefully to determine eligibility. If you find that an impacted academic appointee is not eligible, APM 758, Leaves of Absence/Other Lease with Pay, does provide for paid leave for “other good cause.” This provision may be applicable in these extraordinary circumstances.
We encourage you to work closely with your academic appointees to identify the most appropriate paid leave options based on their individual situations. Our goal is to provide as much support as possible during this difficult time.
UC Irvine provides a variety of services through our Life Resources Program, offering emotional support, work-life solutions, legal guidance, financial assistance, and other support. This free and confidential program is available to all UC Irvine and UCI Health Employees.
UCnet also have emergency resources from UC’s benefits plans and we have attached specific resources shared by UC’s benefits plans for those impacted by the fires.
If you have any questions or need further clarification, please do not hesitate to reach out to your assigned academic personnel analyst.
Sincerely,
Office of Academic Personnel
