ACADEMIC DEANS — GENERAL CAMPUS

As the result of a campus-wide audit, we are updating our guidelines for faculty who hold less than a 100% administrative appointment.

Associate Deans

Options for determining Associate Dean compensation remains unchanged but has been expanded to include individuals in the Associate Vice Provost title. Appointment into the Associate Vice Provost title is reserved solely for the Office of the Provost.

The three compensation options for Associate Deans are outlined on the first sheet of the attachment. They provide guidelines on how to administer each option while providing flexibility to handle individual circumstances that may arise within your unit. Maximum compensation levels for applicable compensation components (e.g. stipends, summer salary, etc.) are also included.

Department Chairs

The compensation model for Department Chairs remains unchanged, but has been expanded to include faculty administrators in the following titles:

Director
Associate Director
Faculty Assistant to the Dean
Interim/Acting appointments in the titles above

Administrative Stipend

The stipend maximum has been increased from $20,000 to $25,000, effective immediately.

Key Points

Incentives, such as course release, research allowance, committee service release will be at the discretion of the Dean. All compensation components, including new augmentations up to the maximum, should be funded from the School/program budget.

Approval of compensation for these faculty administrators is dean delegated, any exceptions to the compensation models outlined remains in my office and will require approval prior to the effective date.

New Appointments

For new faculty administrator appointments, please forward a copy of the appointment letter (including all forms of compensation) to the Office of Academic Personnel for our records within one month of the appointment. Modifications to existing appointments will require a copy of the documentation to my office. These guidelines supersede previous guidelines communicated by my office.
