UC and the United Auto Workers (UAW) 5810 have reached an agreement on the composition of the Academic Researchers Unit, a new bargaining unit at UC campuses and Schools of Medicine will include professional researchers, specialists, project scientists, and coordinators of public programs. In addition, certain individuals appointed in visiting academic researcher titles will also be included in this bargaining unit.
As of April 3, 2019, the Public Relations Employment Board (PERB) has confirmed that the UAW has the requisite level of support in order to represent the unit. Accordingly, please post the attached notices no later than April 11, 2019. Specifically, the PERB rules state:
As soon as possible, but in no event later than 10 days from its issuance, the employer shall post a copy of the employer response conspicuously on all employee bulletin boards in each facility of the employer in which members of the unit affected are employed. The response shall remain posted for at least 15 workdays.
