ACADEMIC DEANS
DEPARTMENT CHAIRS
CHIEF PERSONNEL OFFICERS
The Negotiated Salary Trial Program (NSTP) has been issued into policy under Academic Personnel Manual (APM) Section 672 as the Negotiated Salary Program (NSP), which becomes effective July 1, 2025. Senate faculty who are not members of another compensation plan (e.g., Health Sciences Compensation Plan) and hold a University appointment at or greater than 50 percent time in one or more of the title series listed here may apply.
Key differences between the Negotiated Salary Trial Program (NSTP) which ends on June 30, 2025, and the Negotiated Salary Program (NSP) effective July 1, 2025:
- Expanded list of eligible title series to include:
- Professor of Clinical __ (e.g., Optometry)
- Acting appointees in one of the eligible title series
- Exception to take fewer than the required 3/9ths summer salary is possible with Vice Provost approval.
Schools and academic units may establish their own internal deadlines, however, all completed applications must be submitted no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 16, 2025. No extensions will be granted, and late submissions will be automatically rejected without being reviewed.
New faculty with employment starting 2025-2026 will be given a maximum of 3-months extension from the date of hire, providing allowable funds to support a negotiated salary component are awarded and in hand at the time of appointment.
Please have your faculty consider the current financial challenges due to proposed federal policy changes and a potential state budget cut before they apply to the 2025-26 NSP. Adequate external funding must be available for the entire year of the proposal, without exception.
THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE APPLYING TO NSP:
- Faculty must be up to date on all their mandatory UC training requirements and compliant with all University policies before applying for NSP.
- Faculty should consider their requested percentage carefully, as the negotiated component can be subsumed if there is an increase due to a general range adjustment, which would result in early withdrawal from the program.
- Faculty should work closely with their financial officer to:
- confirm available funding;
- confirm funding source(s) is allowable for NSP
- confirm funding will remain in place for the entire NSP participating year.
Further details on NSP, along with application form and submission instructions can be found on the Office of Academic Personnel website. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Anna Alvarado at annaa4@uci.edu.
