ACADEMIC DEANS
DEPARTMENT CHAIRS

I am pleased to issue a call for nominations for the Daniel G. Aldrich, Jr. Endowed Chair.

The Daniel G. Aldrich, Jr. Endowed Chair was established in 1984 in recognition of the contributions made to the campus by its founding chancellor.  The chair’s purpose is to honor an outstanding scholar and teacher of the highest distinction whose research has been widely and internationally recognized and acclaimed.  The Daniel G. Aldrich, Jr. Endowed chair receives quarterly distributions from the endowment.

If selected and approved, the appointment shall be for a 5-year term with the potential for one five-year renewal subject to a comprehensive review and critical evaluation of the chair holder’s performance during the first 5-year term.

Nomination Requirements

Nominees must be at the Full Professor (regular rank) or Full Professor of Teaching rank and have demonstrated outstanding performance in research, teaching, service, and made significant contributions to inclusive excellence.

Each school is limited to one (1) nomination. The file must include:

  1. CV, research, teaching and inclusive excellence statements;
  2. Nomination letter from a committee convened by the dean;
  3. Dean’s letter of support.

The Campus Distinctions Review Committee will review all nominations and they will forward their assessment of the top three candidate files to the Council on Academic Personnel (CAP). CAP will review the three files and provide a recommendation to the Vice Provost for Academic Personnel, Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor, with final approval by the Chancellor.

All nominations should be forwarded through the dean’s office and emailed to Academic Personnel, acadpers@uci.edu, by March 22, 2024. If you have any questions about this call, please contact Nancy Vongsawat at 949-824-6356 or nkvongsa@uci.edu.

Sincerely,

Diane K. O’Dowd
