UC Office of the President provides an incentive program that supports the hiring of current or former PPF/CPF into ladder-rank faculty positions. The program provides a five-year advance on partial salary support to the hiring unit.  At the end of the five-year period, units will need to provide their own salary support for the position.   The Provost Office will no longer provide a shell FTE; the hiring unit must have an available FTE for their PPF/CPF hire.

A complete list of eligible President’s and Chancellor’s postdoctoral fellows is available here.

General Guidelines for the Hiring Incentive Program

  • Eligible candidates are current or former President’s Postdoctoral Fellows since 1996 or Chancellors’ Postdoctoral Fellows since 2005.
  • Fellows are to be considered for ladder-rank faculty positions.
  • Fellows are not eligible if they currently hold a ladder-rank appointment at a UC campus.
  • Eligible fellows may be hired either through an open recruitment or search waiver; for the latter, refer to the waiver guidelines found here.

Hiring Incentive Requests

  1. Once a School has identified an eligible potential candidate for a faculty position, notify the Office of Academic Personnel (acadpers@uci.edu) with the following information:
    1. Name
    2. Rank proposed
    3. Status (offer accepted and appointments under administrative or department review).
    4. Anticipated salary
    5.  Hiring Department(s), include split department if applicable
    6.  Anticipated start date
  2. Academic Personnel will provide this information to UCOP to confirm eligibility of the hiring incentive. Once confirmed, Academic Personnel will contact the school to proceed with the recruitment.
    1. A tentative offer should not be extended to a candidate without approval from Academic Personnel. The Budget Office will prepare a separate memo outlining the funding commitment to the School.
  3. The school must provide updates on all PPF/CPF hiring incentive faculty recruitments to Academic Personnel, including those that are not successful, for record-keeping purposes.
  4. Academic Personnel will provide a final list of recruitments to UCOP that will be used to confirm final funding from both OP and campus.

All hires under the PPF/CPF Hiring Incentive Program are subject to regular academic personnel appointment policies and procedures. The criteria for appointments are the same as other appointments and are found in  APM 210.
